In The Service Of Humanity is the second episode of the sixth season of Last of the Summer Wine. The episode sees our beloved trio of Compo, Foggy, and Clegg getting involved in a number of adventures in and around their home town of Holmfirth.
The episode begins with our three heroes heading to the local cinema to watch The Guns of Navarone. However, they soon discover that they have arrived on the wrong day and the cinema is closed. Refusing to be deterred, the trio decides to spend the day helping other people.
Their first port of call is the local shop, where they offer to help the shopkeeper with a delivery. However, their plan goes awry when they discover that they have mistakenly delivered a box of tins to the local library instead of the shop. They then spend the next few hours trying to track down the box and retrieve it.
Next up, the trio decides to help a local girl who is having trouble with her bicycle. They manage to get the bike working again, but in the process, they accidentally break a valuable vase that the girl's mother has just purchased. In an effort to make amends, they take the vase to be repaired but end up causing even more damage.
Throughout the episode, we also see the trio engaging in their usual banter and playful arguments. However, we also see their deep friendship and loyalty to each other as they work together to overcome each challenge they face.
As the day draws to a close, the trio finally manages to help someone successfully when they assist in rescuing a group of people who are stranded on a hill due to a broken-down van. This act of kindness and bravery is the perfect end to a day of misadventures and mishaps.
In The Service Of Humanity is a heartwarming and hilarious episode that showcases the best of Last of the Summer Wine. It is a celebration of friendship, kindness, and the determination to help others no matter how many obstacles stand in the way.
