In the first episode of the fifth season of Last of the Summer Wine, titled "Full Steam Behind", the beloved trio of retired men are up to their usual antics in their picturesque Yorkshire village.
Summer is in full swing and the three best friends, Compo, Foggy, and Clegg, are looking for a new project to keep themselves occupied. When Compo hears about a steam engine exhibition taking place nearby, the trio decide to build their own steam engine from spare parts and scrap metal they find lying around the village. Of course, this doesn't go quite to plan and hilarity ensues as they try to get their makeshift engine up and running.
Meanwhile, the village is overrun with tourists and visitors who have come to see the annual steam engine exhibition. Nora Batty, the dour local busybody, is as disapproving as ever and tries to put a stop to the trio's plans, but they press on undeterred.
As they tinker away on their engine, the trio are also dealing with other challenges in their personal lives. Clegg is still pining after his lost love, while Compo is trying to impress a local woman who is not particularly interested in him. Foggy, as usual, is full of ideas and schemes to pass the time.
As the day of the exhibition approaches, the trio are in a race against time to get their engine up and running. Will all their hard work pay off, or will their contraption end up being a complete disaster?
"Full Steam Behind" is a classic episode of Last of the Summer Wine, full of the usual quirky characters, charming countryside setting, and gentle humor that fans have come to love. The chemistry between the three leads is as strong as ever, and viewers will be left feeling warm and fuzzy after watching their misadventures unfold.
