The Changing Face Of Rural Blamire is the third episode of season two of Last of the Summer Wine. The show is a British sitcom about three elderly men and their misadventures in the small Yorkshire town of Holmfirth. The series, created by Roy Clarke, first aired in 1973 and ran for 31 seasons until 2010.
In this episode, one of the main characters, Blamire, decides he wants to change his image from that of a rural countryman to that of a sophisticated man-about-town. He becomes obsessed with modernizing his appearance and upgrading his lifestyle.
Blamire begins by donning a suit and tie and carrying a briefcase instead of his usual country attire and rucksack. He also invests in a sleek new car in which he cruises around town with his new lady friend, a woman he meets at a local dance.
However, Blamire's attempts to become a city slicker don't go as smoothly as he imagines. He finds himself unable to keep up with his fast-paced new lifestyle, and his fixation with his appearance and status become humorous and ultimately ineffective.
Meanwhile, Blamire's two friends, Clegg and Compo, watch with amusement as Blamire's plans fall apart. They continue their own light-hearted shenanigans, including a failed attempt to create a home-made mobile library and a series of misadventures with their old bicycle cart.
The episode explores themes of identity, insecurities, and the clash between rural and urban lifestyles against the backdrop of the picturesque Yorkshire countryside.
The Changing Face Of Rural Blamire showcases the series' signature wit and whimsical humour, as well as the charming performances of its lead actors, Peter Sallis, Michael Bates, and Brian Wilde.
Overall, this episode is a delightful and heart-warming addition to the beloved British sitcom, offering a nostalgic and humorous glimpse into the lives of three loveable old men in a quaint English town.
