In season 2 episode 2, titled Dodgeball Club, Mike is intrigued by the idea of joining the club after seeing the group of guys practicing in the parking lot during lunch.
As Mike takes a closer look at the group, he realizes they are all younger and more athletic than he is but it doesn't deter him from wanting to join the club. He sees it as a chance to relive his glory days as a high school athlete and prove that he's still got it.
Despite not being as physically fit as his younger counterparts, Mike manages to hold his own in the game and even earns the respect of the dodgeball club leader, Gary.
Meanwhile, Mandy and Kyle are tasked with creating a presentation on a famous couple in history for their class project. After struggling to come up with a unique couple, Mandy suggests they choose her parents, Mike and Vanessa, as their subject.
As they delve deeper into the lives of Mike and Vanessa Baxter, Mandy and Kyle begin to realize that their relationship isn't as perfect as it seems. They discover that Mike and Vanessa have had their fair share of arguments and disagreements, but have always managed to work through them and come out stronger on the other side.
Back at the dodgeball club, Mike's success on the court has led to him being named the new captain of the team. However, when a younger and more talented player joins the club and challenges Mike's leadership, he must decide whether to step aside or fight for his position.
As the dodgeball club drama unfolds, Mandy and Kyle present their findings on Mike and Vanessa to their class, highlighting the importance of communication and compromise in any successful relationship.
In the end, Mike ultimately decides to step down as captain of the dodgeball club and support the younger player as they take on new challenges and opportunities. This decision shows that even at his age, Mike is still capable of growth and learning, and that being a good leader means knowing when to step aside and let others shine.
