In season 1 episode 5 of Las Vegas, titled "Groundhog Summer," fans are taken on an exciting ride through the high stakes world of Sin City once again. As always, there's never a dull moment inside the fictional Montecito Resort and Casino, where the action never stops and the stakes are always high.
The episode opens with the staff of the Montecito Resort and Casino waking up to a new day, but there is a sense of déjà vu in the air. In fact, it seems like they are trapped in a time loop that keeps repeating the same day over and over again.
It all starts with hotel maintenance technician Sam Marquez (Vanessa Marcil) waking up after a restless night to find out that it is Groundhog Day once again. As the day goes on, it becomes evident that everyone is reliving the same day repeatedly without any memory of the day before.
Casino host, Samantha Jane "Sam" Marquez takes a gamble on love when she agrees to meet her first love and ex-fiancé, Quince (Jesse Borrego), who broke her heart several years ago. Sam must decide whether she should take the gamble and give him another chance or walk away from him for good.
Meanwhile, Security Chief Ed Deline (James Caan) has his hands full dealing with a group of compulsive gamblers who have been banned from the casino for their addiction issues. One of the group members, Jack, is determined to win back his money at any cost, and it's up to Ed and his team to stop him before he causes any damage.
The casino's head of entertainment Danny McCoy (Josh Duhamel) is also in a bind when a music superstar whom he has long admired, Danny Von Halen (guest star Wayne Newton), announces that he wants to be a headliner at the Montecito in the future, but only under one condition – that Danny must perform as his opening act.
Finally, cocktail waitress Delinda Deline (Molly Sims) finds herself swept up in a strange and surreal dreamlike state, where she begins to experience bizarre encounters with many of the key players who make the Montecito what it is today.
As the day unfolds, it soon becomes apparent that the staff of the Montecito is in for one bizarre and psychedelic experience, as they attempt to break the spell that has trapped them in this strange time loop. But with the stakes higher than ever before, nobody knows who they can trust, and everything is up for grabs.
