Rick, Will and Holly stumble upon a mysterious object in their cave, which turns out to be an album of photographs from a twentieth-century family. However, they soon discover that touching the pictures causes them to become part of the photograph, transporting them back in time to the era depicted in the snapshot.
As they travel through different time periods, the family must evade fearsome dinosaurs and find a way to reverse the effects of the album before they become trapped in their new surroundings forever. Along the way, they encounter a friendly cave-dweller who provides them with valuable knowledge about the Land of the Lost, as well as some much-needed assistance in their adventures.
But when they arrive at a photo of a nearby campsite, they realize that the people in the picture may be their only hope of returning home. With time running out, they race to the campsite and plead for help, but soon discover that the photo was taken years ago and the people in the picture have long since left.
As they contemplate their grim fate, the family is suddenly approached by a familiar face – that of their father, who had gone missing in the jungle years before. Having stumbled upon the same album, he too had been transported through time and space, and had been searching for his children ever since.
Together, the family devises a plan to use the album's powers to return home, but not before bidding a fond farewell to the friendly cave-dweller who helped them along the way. With their adventure at an end, the family returns to their own time and place, grateful for the experience but happy to be home.
