Ep 1. Episode 1
- February 28, 2011
La Reina del Sur is a Spanish-language telenovela that revolves around the life of Teresa Mendoza. The story begins with a young and innocent Teresa living in Culiacán, a city in the state of Sinaloa, Mexico. Her world is turned upside-down after she falls in love with a drug trafficker named Guero Davila. Teresa is forced to flee the city with Guero and start a new life in Spain.
Episode 1 of La Reina del Sur begins with a flashback to Teresa's childhood. She reminisces about her father, who would tell her stories about the sea and pirates. It is evident from the start that Teresa has always had a sense of adventure and a desire to explore the world.
The scene then shifts to present-day Culiacán, where Teresa is working in a sweatshop. She is part of a tight-knit group of coworkers who spend their days sewing clothing for meager pay. It is clear that life in Culiacán is tough, and opportunities are limited.
Teresa's life takes a drastic turn when she attends a party with her friend Brenda. There, she meets Guero Davila, a charming and handsome man who claims to work in construction. Teresa is immediately smitten with Guero, and they begin a whirlwind romance.
Teresa's happiness is short-lived, however, as she soon discovers that Guero is involved in drug trafficking. She is shocked and scared, but Guero convinces her that he loves her and will do whatever it takes to protect her.
Teresa and Guero's relationship is put to the test when they receive word that Guero's boss, Don Epifanio, has been killed. Guero is tasked with delivering a shipment of drugs to Spain, and he convinces Teresa to come with him. He promises her that they can start a new life in Spain and leave their troubles behind.
The journey to Spain is a harrowing one, as they board a small plane that is flown by a reckless pilot. Teresa and Guero are both terrified, but they arrive safely in Spain.
Once they arrive, Teresa and Guero are taken to a house by a man named Santiago Fisterra. Santiago is the contact person in Spain for Guero's drug trafficking ring, and he becomes an important figure in Teresa's life.
Teresa quickly realizes that life in Spain is very different from what she's used to in Mexico. She is amazed by the beauty of the country but also overwhelmed by the differences in culture and language.
Despite their best efforts to stay under the radar, Teresa and Guero are soon discovered by the police. They are forced to flee and go into hiding. Teresa is left alone in a strange country, with no money, no friends, and no knowledge of the language.
Despite the dire situation she finds herself in, Teresa refuses to give up. She is determined to survive and make a life for herself in Spain. Episode 1 ends with Teresa walking through the bustling streets of Madrid, a look of determination on her face.
Overall, Episode 1 of La Reina del Sur sets the stage for the rest of the series. It introduces the main characters and their motivations, while also establishing the central conflict of the story. The episode is suspenseful and engaging, drawing the viewer into Teresa's world and leaving them wanting more.
