In season 1 episode 4 of Kroll Show titled "Too Much Tuna," Nick Kroll and John Mulaney reprise their comedic characters George St. Geegland and Gil Faizon as they host a prank show called "Too Much Tuna." The premise is that they invite unsuspecting guests onto the show for an interview, but instead of talking about their work or personal life, St. Geegland and Faizon insist on serving them enormous amounts of tuna. The more tuna the guest eats, the better the show is considered to be.
The episode opens with a musical number featuring St. Geegland and Faizon singing a song about their love for tuna. The pair then invite their first guest, Liz, onto the show. Liz is a young, attractive woman who works at a museum. St. Geegland and Faizon immediately turn the conversation towards tuna, offering her a variety of tuna-based dishes and snacks. Liz appears uncomfortable, but St. Geegland and Faizon press on, insisting that she must eat more tuna to make the show a success.
The show's second guest is a retired police officer named Bob. Like Liz, Bob is subjected to a barrage of tuna-related jokes and puns. St. Geegland and Faizon ignore Bob's attempts to steer the conversation away from tuna and instead keep piling on more and more tuna-based dishes. Bob finally reaches his limit and storms off the set, leaving St. Geegland and Faizon confused as to why their "brilliant" concept isn't working.
The third guest, played by comedian Chelsea Peretti, is quick to catch on to the prank and instead of being intimidated by the hosts, she joins in on the joke. Peretti's character is a conspiracy theorist who believes that eating too much tuna can lead to mind control by the government. She insists that she will not eat any tuna, forcing St. Geegland and Faizon to improvise and come up with increasingly ridiculous tuna-based challenges in an attempt to get her to eat.
Throughout the episode, the show also features fake commercials for tuna-related products, such as a tuna-flavored toothpaste and a tuna-based energy drink. The commercials are intentionally cheesy and over-the-top, adding to the absurdity of the "Too Much Tuna" concept.
Overall, "Too Much Tuna" is a hilarious and clever send-up of prank shows and talk shows. Nick Kroll and John Mulaney's chemistry as George St. Geegland and Gil Faizon is undeniable, and their dedication to the bit is impressive. Even when the guests appear uncomfortable or confused, the hosts never break character, making for a consistently entertaining episode.
