In the third episode of season 3 of the crime drama series Kojak, entitled "My Brother, My Enemy," the audience is introduced to a dark and complex case with a personal twist. The episode begins with Kojak, the tough and streetwise detective played by Telly Savalas, investigating the murder of a young woman found abandoned in an alleyway. As Kojak and his team begin to piece together the clues, they discover that the victim was the sister of one of Kojak's old childhood friends, Jack Ormento (played by guest star Louis Gossett Jr.).
As Kojak and his team delve deeper into the case, they soon realize that the Ormento family is not only deeply involved in the local criminal underworld, but that Jack's brother, Vinnie, is the one responsible for the victim's death. To make matters even more complicated, Kojak discovers that Vinnie and Jack have been estranged for years, with Vinnie holding a longstanding grudge against his own brother, whom he sees as weak and disloyal to the family business.
As Kojak untangles the web of lies and deception surrounding the case, he is forced to confront his own relationship with Jack and the Ormento family, as well as his own sense of morality and justice. With tension running high and danger lurking around every corner, Kojak must use all of his wits and street smarts to track down Vinnie and bring him to justice, all while trying to avoid any collateral damage to the Ormento family, and keep his own emotions and biases in check.
Alongside Kojak's investigation, the episode also explores the themes of family loyalty, personal vendettas, and the blurred lines between right and wrong in the criminal underworld. With strong performances by the entire cast, particularly Savalas and Gossett Jr., "My Brother, My Enemy" is a compelling and emotionally charged instalment in the Kojak series, showcasing the gritty realism and hard-hitting drama that has made the show a classic of its era.
