Kobato Season 1 Episode 5, titled "E 5", explores Kobato's continued efforts to fill her bottle of wounded hearts through good deeds. In this episode, she spends most of her time at the Kindergarten where she meets a boy named Chi-yo who is beginning to lose his innocence due to his family issues. Chi-yo proves to be a tough nut to crack as he is very guarded and unresponsive to Kobato’s advances. Kobato uses all her charm and cuteness to make him open up to her.
Meanwhile, Kobato's colleagues from the Yomogi Nursery drop by to bring her food, and she accidentally falls asleep while eating. Soon, time starts slipping by her, and she finds herself waking up in the Kindergarten instead of the park. When she goes to leave, she realizes that she left her bag in the Nursery and goes to retrieve it, only to find Kohaku cleaning there. Kohaku reminds Kobato of the importance of hard work and the value of positive spirit.
At the Kindergarten, Kobato seems to be making progress with Chi-yo, but she still has a long way to go. When she tries to give him a candy, he rejects it, but she still leaves it in his hands. Later, they go outside, and Kobato tries to capture a moment with her camera, but Chi-yo runs away. After going back in, Kobato finds out from the teacher, Haruka, that Chi-yo's father was in jail and his mother worked long hours to support them. As a result, he had to take care of himself, and that left him very detached.
Kobato decides to take matters into her own hands and spends most of the day learning Chi-yo’s love for cakes, and she decides to bake one for him. Upon giving him the cake, she starts to develop a relationship with him and even comes over to their house. Later, Kobato talks to Haruka, who explains that she knows a woman who's running an orphanage for homeless children. Haruka asks Kobato if she could play with the children since she's been doing a great job with Chi-yo.
Feeling resolved to help, Kobato goes to the orphanage, where we see her playing with the children. Kobato quickly realizes that all the kids have their own issues to deal with, and that they need someone to trust. She promises to return and play with the kids again, and they seem excited to see her again.
Overall, Kobato Season 1 Episode 5, titled "E 5," is a heartwarming episode about learning to connect with people who have suffered trauma and the importance of putting in effort to do so. It highlights the importance of hard work, positivity, and most importantly, the value of trust. Kobato's kind-hearted nature and willingness to help others make her a likable character, and we can't wait to see what she gets up to in the coming episodes.
