Michael Long is a determined police officer who gets shot on duty and left for dead. He is rescued by a mysterious billionaire named Wilton Knight, who gives him a new face, a new identity, and a new mission. Knight has created a high-tech car named KITT, which is equipped with artificial intelligence and advanced gadgets. Knight wants Michael to become the driver of KITT and fight against crime and corruption with the help of his new partner.
Michael reluctantly agrees to take on the mission and, after months of training, finally meets KITT in person. KITT is a sleek black Pontiac Trans-Am with an arsenal of weapons, a bulletproof body, and a highly sophisticated computer brain. Michael is impressed by the car's capabilities, but he is still skeptical about using a car as his main crime-fighting tool.
The guys, along with Knight Industries' chief technician Bonnie Barstow, soon find themselves investigating a complex case involving a stolen experimental helicopter and a group of dangerous terrorists. Michael uses his new identity as a criminal mastermind to infiltrate the group and gather intelligence, while KITT provides backup and hacking assistance from the outside.
As the investigation unfolds, Michael learns that the terrorists are planning to use the stolen helicopter to launch a devastating attack on the city. He and KITT race against time to stop them, but they soon run into trouble when they are ambushed by the terrorists in a violent shootout.
The episode ends with Michael and KITT barely escaping the ambush, but not before Michael is fatally wounded. KITT rushes him to a hospital, and Michael is left lying in a coma, his fate uncertain. Knight appears at his bedside and vows to do everything in his power to save him, while KITT is left wondering if he will ever have the chance to work alongside his new friend again.
Knight of the Phoenix, Part 1 sets the stage for an exciting new series full of action, suspense, and technological innovation. With Michael and KITT leading the charge, anything is possible in the world of Knight Rider.
