A Promotion in a Predicament is the tenth and final episode of the third season of the critically acclaimed drama series Kingdom. The episode takes place in the aftermath of a brutal fight between Alvey (Frank Grillo) and Ryan (Matt Lauria) that left both of them badly injured and potentially out of commission for good. With their top fighters out of the game, Navy St. Gym finds itself in a precarious position, and Alvey must make some tough decisions to keep the gym afloat.
The episode opens with Alvey in the hospital, recuperating from his injuries. He is visited by his ex-wife Lisa (Kiele Sanchez), who offers him some words of encouragement and support. Alvey is grateful for the visit but knows that there are tough times ahead for the gym. Lisa, who has been promoted to a management position at the gym, assures him that she will do everything she can to keep it alive.
Meanwhile, Ryan is also in the hospital, recovering from his injuries. He is visited by Jay (Jonathan Tucker), who tells him that he is going to have to step up and take on a leadership role at the gym in Alvey's absence. Ryan is hesitant, knowing that he is still recovering and may not be ready for such a responsibility. Jay, however, assures him that he has what it takes to be a great coach and leader, and implores him to take the reins.
Back at the gym, Lisa is busy trying to keep things running smoothly. She is approached by some investors who are interested in buying the gym, but Lisa is hesitant to sell. She knows that the gym is more than just a business to the fighters and trainers who call it home, and she is determined to keep it in Navy St. Gym's hands.
Meanwhile, Jackie (Joanna Going) has taken on a new fighter, a young up-and-comer named Nate (Nick Jonas). She sees a lot of potential in him and is determined to turn him into a champion. However, Nate is still raw and inexperienced, and Jackie quickly realizes that he has a lot to learn if he wants to make it in the brutal world of MMA.
As the episode unfolds, tensions rise at the gym as everyone struggles to adjust to their new roles. Lisa feels the weight of her new management position, while Jay tries to assert his authority as the de facto leader. Meanwhile, Nate struggles to keep up with the rigorous training regime that Jackie has set for him, and Ryan grapples with the weight of his new responsibilities.
In the final scene of the episode, we see the fighters and trainers of Navy St. Gym gathered together, preparing to move forward into an uncertain future. Alvey is still recuperating from his injuries, but he is hopeful that the gym will survive. Lisa has decided to turn down the investors' offer and keep the gym in Navy St. hands, while Ryan has reluctantly taken on the role of head coach. Jackie has a new fighter to train, and they are both determined to make it to the top.
