In the thirteenth episode of season three of King of the Hill, titled De-Kahnstructing Henry, we see Hank Hill caught in the middle of a conflict. He is pulled in different directions by his friendship with Kahn and his loyalty to his propane company.
The episode starts with Hank and his friends at a barbecue. Kahn mentions that he wants to build a pool in his backyard and needs a permit from the city. Hank tells him that he can get the permit much faster if he goes to see Peggy's friend Tricia, who works in the city's permit department.
Kahn goes to see Tricia and is shocked to discover that she is a laid-back pothead who couldn't care less about her job. She tells him that she can't help him with the permit, but she knows a guy who can. This leads Kahn to a shady contractor who claims he can get the permit for him, but only if he pays him a large sum of money.
Kahn is reluctant to pay the money, but his wife Minh convinces him that a pool is worth the investment. Meanwhile, Hank's propane company is in a heated battle with the electric company, as both want to supply energy to the city's new mega-market. Hank is adamant about winning the contract and convinces Peggy to help him by spying on the electric company.
Things come to a head when the contractor Kahn hires starts cutting corners on the pool's construction. Minh is furious but is eventually convinced to go along with it by her overbearing mother. When the pool is finished, they invite Hank and his family over for a pool party.
But the party is cut short when the pool starts leaking and water seeps into the basement of their home. Kahn is devastated, but Hank urges him to confront the contractor about his shoddy work.
In the end, Kahn is able to get the contractor to fix the damage, and Hank is able to secure the propane contract for the mega-market. However, both are left feeling conflicted about their decisions and the consequences that come with them.
Overall, De-Kahnstructing Henry is a hilarious and insightful episode that explores the themes of loyalty, morality, and the consequences of compromised values.
