When it comes to high school football, the coaches in Arlen, Texas take the game very seriously. In this episode of King of the Hill, Peggy Hill jumps at the opportunity to be the football coach at Tom Landry Middle School, where her nephew Bobby is a student. However, she quickly realizes that the job is much harder than she anticipated.
Feeling as though she is not cut out for the job, Peggy enlists the help of two other coaches, which leads to a comedy of errors as they try to teach the boys how to play football. The first coach, Tom Hammond, is an old-fashioned, no-nonsense type of guy who is more interested in winning than teaching the kids how to play. The second coach, Coach Sauers, is a former college football player who is more interested in getting the kids to like him than actually teaching them anything.
As Peggy, Tom, and Coach Sauers try to work together, they quickly realize that their different coaching styles are not compatible. Peggy wants to focus on the basics and teach the kids how to play, but Tom and Coach Sauers want to jump right into the game and start winning.
Meanwhile, Bobby is having his own problems on the team. As the smallest member of the team, he is constantly being picked on and bullied by the other players. Feeling frustrated and powerless, Bobby decides to quit the team and join the drama club instead.
As Peggy, Tom, and Coach Sauers continue to clash, they finally come up with a plan that they all agree on. They decide to bring in a professional football player to teach the kids some real skills. With the help of the pro player, the boys finally start to learn how to play, and they even start winning some games.
As the season comes to an end, Peggy and her fellow coaches realize that they have made a real impact on the kids. They have not only taught them how to play football, but they have also helped them to become more confident and self-assured. In the end, Bobby even comes back to the team, and he begins to really enjoy playing football.
Three Coaches and a Bobby is a heartwarming episode about the power of teamwork and the importance of never giving up. It is also a hilarious episode that is filled with comedic moments and clever writing. Fans of King of the Hill are sure to love this episode, as it showcases the best of what the show has to offer.
