Kelly Gissendaner & Greg Owen is the 4th episode of the 13th season of the true-crime TV series, Killer Couples. This episode tells the horrifying story of Kelly Gissendaner and Greg Owen, a couple whose love resulted in murder.
Kelly and Greg met in 1995 and fell in love almost instantly. However, their relationship was marred by drug addiction and infidelity. Kelly, a mother of three, was serving time in prison for forgery when she met Greg, who was in jail for burglary. After their release, they moved in together and tried to build a life together. Kelly got a job, and Greg repaired cars.
However, their addiction continued to consume them. Kelly was constantly in trouble with the law, and Greg would often be the one bailing her out of jail. In an attempt to fund their drug habit, Kelly started working as a prostitute, while Greg turned to burglary and theft.
Their relationship took a deadly turn in 1997 when Kelly convinced Greg to help her murder her husband, Doug Gissendaner. Doug and Kelly had been having problems for a while, and Kelly had already attempted to poison him. Kelly convinced Greg to carry out the deed, promising him a cut of the insurance money.
On February 7, 1997, Greg ambushed Doug Gissendaner as he was leaving work, stabbed him repeatedly, and left his body in a wooded area. Kelly initially denied any involvement in the murder and even feigned grief in front of Doug’s family and friends. However, police soon found evidence linking her to the crime, including Greg’s car, which was used in the murder, and phone records showing that she had been in contact with Greg before and after the killing.
During their trial, Kelly and Greg turned on each other, with each blaming the other for the murder. Kelly pleaded not guilty, but the jury found her guilty of murder and sentenced her to death. Greg, who had pleaded guilty to murder and testified against Kelly, was sentenced to life in prison.
The episode features interviews with key figures in the case, including Doug’s family and friends, investigators, and lawyers. It also features reenactments of the crime and provides a detailed account of Kelly and Greg’s relationship and their eventual demise.
Overall, this episode of Killer Couples provides a thought-provoking and chilling insight into the consequences of addiction, infidelity, and murder. It is a must-watch for true-crime fans and anyone interested in the psychology of deadly relationships.
