Ep 11. The Call Of Gideon
- 3 min
Kids' Bible Stories season 4 episode 11, titled "The Call Of Gideon," tells the story of Gideon, an Israelite who was called by God to lead his people against their enemies, the Midianites. The episode begins with the Israelites suffering under the oppression of the Midianites, who had been raiding their land and stealing their crops for years.
God calls upon Gideon, who is initially hesitant and uncertain, to lead the Israelites in battle against the Midianites. Gideon asks for a sign from God to confirm his calling, and God grants his request by causing a fleece to become wet with dew while the ground around it remains dry. Gideon still questions his ability to lead the Israelites, but God reassures him that he will be with him every step of the way.
Gideon rallies the Israelites to join him in battle, but before they can fight, God commands Gideon to reduce the size of his army. Gideon obeys and ends up with only 300 men to fight against the vast Midianite army. God tells Gideon to use a surprise attack, and Gideon follows his instructions by dividing his men into three groups, each armed with a trumpet and a torch hidden inside a clay jar.
In a bold move, Gideon and his men sneak up to the Midianite camp at night and blow their trumpets, shattering the jars to reveal the torches and create confusion among the Midianites. They then shout, "A sword for the Lord and for Gideon!" and charge into battle, causing the Midianites to flee and leaving the Israelites victorious.
The episode concludes with Gideon leading the Israelites in a time a peace and prosperity, but they eventually turn away from God and fall into sin. Despite their shortcomings, Gideon remains a faithful servant of God, and his story serves as a reminder of the power of faith and obedience.
