Let the Games Begin / Night of the Zombie Kat Kid vs. Kat is a Canadian animated television series created by Rob Boutilier. The show is about a young boy named Coop who battles every day against his evil alien cat named Kat. The first season premiered on YTV in Canada on October 25, 2008, and aired in the United States on Disney XD on February 21, 2009. This episode, entitled "Let the Games Begin / Night of the Zombie Kat," is the first episode of season one.
In "Let the Games Begin," Coop and his friends Dennis and Fiona are competing in a scavenger hunt at a local fair. The grand prize is a brand new video game system, and Coop is determined to win. However, when Kat shows up in his spaceship and starts wreaking havoc, the hunt becomes the least of Coop's worries. As usual, no one believes Coop when he tries to explain what's going on, so he's forced to take matters into his own hands and stop Kat himself.
In "Night of the Zombie Kat," Coop and Dennis decide to make a horror movie for a school project. However, when Kat gets into Coop's camera equipment and accidentally brings a toy zombie to life, things quickly spiral out of control. The zombie begins to multiply and infects other toys, causing chaos throughout the house. Coop and Dennis must work together to stop the outbreak before it's too late.
Throughout the episode, Coop is constantly battling against Kat's schemes, which include stealing gadgets, manipulating Coop's dad and generally causing chaos. Coop's sister Millie is blissfully unaware of Kat's evil nature and dotes on him constantly, much to Coop's chagrin.
Overall, "Let the Games Begin / Night of the Zombie Kat" sets up the premise of the show nicely. Coop is a relatable protagonist who is constantly at odds with his diabolical cat. The animation is bright and colorful, and the humor is aimed at both children and adults. The episode is full of action and adventure, as well as some genuinely creepy moments. It's clear from this first episode that Kid vs. Kat is going to be a wild ride, and fans of animated shows will not be disappointed.
