Kenichi Shirahama is a lowly high school student who is bullied and has no athletic ability. He longs to be stronger, to be able to stand up for himself and others, but has no idea how to do it. One day, while out walking, he comes across a building that catches his eye: Ryozanpaku. It looks like a strange mix between a Japanese shrine and an old, rundown house, but there's something about it that intrigues him. As he's about to leave, a man walks past him and into the building. This man, Apachai Hopachai, greets Kenichi and invites him inside.
Kenichi soon discovers that Ryozanpaku is a dojo, a place where people come to train in martial arts. The dojo is home to six masters, each with their own unique style of fighting: Apachai, Shigure Kosaka, Akisame Koetsuji, Kensei Ma, Hayato Furinji, and his granddaughter Miu. Kenichi is amazed by their strength and skill, but feels completely out of place. Still, he longs to learn from them and become strong.
When he asks about becoming a student, the masters make it clear that they don't take just anyone. They want someone who is willing to work hard and never give up. Kenichi begs them to give him a chance, and they finally agree to take him on as a disciple.
Kenichi begins his training, but quickly realizes that it's not going to be easy. The masters push him to his limits, both physically and mentally. He's barely able to keep up with their techniques, let alone master them. At one point, he even considers giving up.
But Kenichi is determined to succeed. He keeps pushing himself, even when it seems like he's not making any progress. He also develops a friendship with Miu, who becomes his training partner and confidante.
As Kenichi trains, he also begins to learn more about the masters and their pasts. Each one has a unique story, and each one has their own reason for being at Ryozanpaku. Kenichi begins to understand that the dojo is more than just a place to train. It's a home for these people, a place where they can be themselves and find purpose.
By the end of the episode, Kenichi has made great progress in his training. He's still not as strong as the others, but he's getting there. He feels like he's finally found a place where he belongs, and he's excited to see what the future holds. Ryozanpaku has become more than just a building to him - it's a family.
