Ray, a young boy, lives in two different worlds — the regular world of his family and friends and the magical world of the creatures known as Kaijudo. In the season 1 episode 21 of Kaijudo: Rise of the Duel Masters, titled "Like Father, Like Son," Ray's dad Tate shows up unannounced and creates tension between Ray and his mentor, Master Chavez.
Ray is nervous about his dad's arrival because Tate has never supported his interest in Kaijudo. Meanwhile, Master Chavez recognizes Tate from his youth and is similarly anxious about his presence. Ray tries to downplay Tate's intrusion, but a difficult situation at the Creature World prompts Ray to seek help from his estranged father. Tate offers to help Ray and his friends, but it quickly becomes apparent that he is unable to help and is only interested in personal gain.
While grappling with his feelings about his dad, Ray discovers an unsettling truth about the creatures in the Creature World. The creatures are being manipulated by the Choten, a powerful villain who is trying to harness their magic for his own gain. Together, Ray, his friends, and Master Chavez must come up with a plan to save the creatures and stop the Choten from carrying out his evil plans.
Throughout the episode, Ray is forced to confront his strained relationship with his father and come to terms with the fact that Tate may never fully understand or support his passion for Kaijudo. However, Ray also learns that there are other people in his life who believe in him and will always have his back, no matter what.
Overall, "Like Father, Like Son" is an emotionally charged episode that explores the complexities of family relationships and the importance of finding support from unexpected places. With high stakes action, stunning animation, and heartfelt performances from the voice cast, this episode is a must-see for fans of the series.
