Dealing with the aftermath of his scuffle with Boyd Crowder, Deputy U.S. Marshal Raylan Givens receives word from Chief Deputy Art Mullen that a man named Walter Goggins, better known as "The Fixer," is back in town. The Fixer is a notorious criminal who has been known to take care of problems for various criminal organizations.
As Raylan starts to investigate, he finds out that The Fixer is currently working for the Bennetts, a family of marijuana growers who have a reputation for being violent and unpredictable. Raylan also discovers that The Fixer has a connection to Ava Crowder, Boyd's sister-in-law, and a woman with whom Raylan has had a complicated history.
Meanwhile, Boyd is trying to get himself out of trouble with his boss, the not-so-benevolent Mags Bennett. Mags is unhappy with Boyd for starting a fight with Raylan and wants him to make amends. Boyd is given the task of getting rid of a problem that is interfering with Mags' business, a man named Devil who works for a rival drug dealer.
Eventually, Raylan and The Fixer cross paths, and Raylan is able to convince him that it would be in his best interest to work with the Marshals rather than against them. In the end, The Fixer agrees to provide information that will help the Marshals bring down the Bennetts, but not before Ava and Raylan have a conversation that leaves both of them feeling conflicted about their past.
Overall, episode three of Justified's first season is a tense and action-packed episode that provides plenty of intrigue and character development. The episode effectively sets up several ongoing storylines, including the escalating conflict between the Marshals and the Bennetts, as well as the complex relationship between Raylan and Ava. Fans of the show will find plenty to enjoy in this episode, and newcomers will be drawn in by the show's engaging characters and gripping narrative.
