In Justice League season 1 episode 20, A Knight of Shadows (1), our heroic team is seen struggling with the aftermath of a previous mission. The episode starts off with the Justice League pondering their recent inability to fully prevent destruction. Batman, having anticipated such an outcome, unveils a new weapon whose purpose is to assist the team and prevent further deaths.
The episode follows the story of Green Lantern, who is targeted by an evil sorcerer named Mordred. Mordred is the child of famous and powerful enemies of the Justice League: The wizard Merlin and the enchantress Morgaine Le Fey. Mordred is out to seek revenge on the Justice League for past grievances and has set his sights on Green Lantern.
The Knights of the Round Table in Camelot had previously imprisoned Mordred, believing him to be pure evil. However, it turns out Mordred had merely been influenced by his mother's darkness and hunger for power. Merlin, who was close to Mordred before he was consumed by evil, made a deal to spare Mordred's life if he would renounce his evil ways.
Mordred accepts the offer and seeks to uphold his part of the deal by using his powers for good. However, strange events start occurring in Camelot, leading Mordred to realize that he cannot prevent his mother from corrupting the land. As such, Mordred must seek out the Justice League and Green Lantern specifically to help him stop Morgaine.
However, Mordred does not know that his mother has also tracked him down, and she sees this as an opportunity to awaken the evil within Mordred. Morgaine puts a spell on Green Lantern and entraps him in a dream world, hoping that this will weaken the Justice League and render them unable to stop her.
Meanwhile, Mordred has joined forces with the Justice League, and with the help of Batman's new weapon, they enter the dream world to rescue Green Lantern. Things quickly spiral out of control as Morgaine's darkness infects Mordred, and he begins to turn on the Justice League.
The team soon realizes that they need to stop Morgaine to save Mordred, as well as all of Camelot. They decide to split up, with Mordred and Wonder Woman seeking Merlin's help and the rest of the team staying behind to face Morgaine and her army of supernatural beings.
The episode ends on a cliffhanger, leaving the audience wondering if the Justice League will be successful in stopping Morgaine and if Green Lantern will be saved from the dream world.
Overall, A Knight of Shadows (1) is an exciting and action-packed episode that advances the overarching story of Justice League while also introducing new characters and plotlines. The episode's exploration of morality and family relationships adds depth to the characters and makes the viewers invested in the outcome of the story.
