The Justice League Unlimited season 1 episode 13, titled The Once and Future Thing, Part Two starts off with more time travel adventures. Batman currently stranded in the distant future, teams up with a group of rebels to try and stop Chronos from changing history. On the other hand, Superman and Wonder Woman find themselves fighting alongside their future selves against the time thief, bringing the danger into more vivid reality.
The two Justice League teams move towards a final confrontation with Chronos, but when one of the Leaguers is lost in the time stream, they must search through different eras to find their missing teammate. Meanwhile, Chronos reveals his true plan: to travel back in time and do away with the Justice League. However, history does not seem to be on his side, as he's about to find out.
The plot of The Once and Future Thing, Part Two begins to pick up pace as more time travel is introduced. The story skips around the years as the Justice League chase after Chronos and his evil plans, making the episode a little difficult to follow at first. However, it all leads to an ever-increasing tension as the Looney Tunes characters and some of the Justice League characters are taken on a wild ride through the timeline. The action sequences are cleverly woven in, and even the race through New York City with giant robots is quite entertaining.
The animation for this episode is still as strong and striking as ever. The futuristic world of Batman: Beyond is imaginative and punchy, while the reimagined heroes all look great in their updated outfits. Even the older, wiser versions of Superman and Wonder Woman are startling, and the sight of them fighting alongside their younger counterparts is a real joy to behold.
The voice cast for The Once and Future Thing, Part Two is uniformly excellent. Kevin Conroy and George Newbern are, as always, impressive as Batman and Superman, while Susan Eisenberg’s Wonder Woman has never sounded better. Also, the episode features some fantastic guest appearances, including the return of Michael Rosenbaum as The Flash, whose character arc in this episode is satisfyingly rounded off.
Overall, The Once and Future Thing, Part Two is an engaging and dramatic episode of Justice League Unlimited that makes great use of time travel. It's a fitting conclusion for the two-part time travel saga, and it’s easily one of the series’ best episodes. The writing manages to balance intense action and character development, and the animation is top-notch throughout. This episode is sure to please fans of the Justice League Unlimited series and won't disappoint those who love time-traveling tales.
