Julie and the Phantoms follows the story of Julie, a teenage girl, who lost her passion for music after her mother passed away. However, after discovering a band of ghosts in her garage who were once aspiring musicians themselves, they team up to create a new band and let their music be heard once again.
In season 1 episode 4, entitled "I Got the Music," Julie enlists her new ghostly bandmates, Luke, Reggie, and Alex, to help her prepare for a music competition at the school. Julie is determined to prove to her schoolmates that she is more than just a quiet and reserved girl. She wants to show them that she's a talented musician who deserves to be recognized and celebrated.
As they begin rehearsing, however, the phantoms soon realize that Julie's songs are incomplete and are missing certain elements that make them pop. They all agree that they need to add something unique to their music, something that will make Julie's songs stand out from the rest.
With that goal in mind, the phantoms decide to take a break from practicing and explore the city. They visit a record store, listen to various genres of music, and even participate in an open mic night. During their adventure, they stumble upon an old jazz club and are instantly drawn to the music.
As they listen to the jazz musicians, the phantoms come to a realization. They need to infuse their music with elements of jazz to make it truly special. So they head back to Julie's garage and start experimenting with blending their rock style with the smooth sounds of jazz.
Together they create a new sound that is distinct and captivating, and when they perform their new music at the school competition, they leave the audience stunned. The judges are impressed, and Julie's classmates finally see her in a new light. They see her as a budding rockstar who is unafraid to try new things.
The episode ends on a high note, with the phantoms feeling proud of themselves for helping Julie find her voice and discovering a new sound. They all agree that they make a great team and can't wait to see what else they can create together.
