Ep 212. Illegal Power Rip-Off!; Wage Garnishment Travesty!
- June 28, 2019
In season 23 episode 212 of Judge Judy, titled "Illegal Power Rip-Off!; Wage Garnishment Travesty!", viewers are presented with two cases of people being taken advantage of in different ways.
In the first case, a woman is suing her former landlord for illegally shutting off her electricity. The plaintiff alleges that the defendant turned off her power in the middle of winter, leaving her without heat or electricity for days. She claims that the landlord did this as revenge after she reported a mold issue in her apartment. The landlord, on the other hand, argues that the plaintiff was behind on rent and had previously been warned that her power would be shut off if she did not pay her bills. It is up to Judge Judy to determine who is telling the truth and decide what, if any, damages should be awarded.
In the second case, a woman is suing her former employer for improperly garnishing her wages. The plaintiff had worked for the defendant for several months before quitting due to what she considered to be an unsafe work environment. Despite her leaving the job, the defendant continued to garnish her wages, claiming that the plaintiff owed them money for an error she had made while working there. The plaintiff argues that she had paid back the amount she owed and that the defendant was unfairly taking money out of her paycheck. Again, Judge Judy must determine who is telling the truth and decide what, if any, damages should be awarded.
Throughout the episode, Judge Judy listens carefully to both sides of each case, asking probing questions and examining any evidence presented. She is tough but fair, using her years of experience to get to the bottom of each situation and make a decision that is based on the facts. As always, she is quick to call out anyone who is lying or trying to manipulate the system.
By the end of the episode, viewers will have seen two very different examples of how people can be taken advantage of. They will also have witnessed the importance of standing up for oneself and seeking justice when wronged. While the specifics of the cases may differ, the underlying theme is the same: that everyone deserves to be treated fairly and with respect.
