Ep 182. Car Full of Children Headed Into Pond!; Fishing for Friends on a Dating App

  • May 14, 2019

Two distinct cases are presented in season 23 episode 182 of Judge Judy. The first case involves a mother who claims that her car full of children mysteriously ended up in a pond, and she believes that her ex-husband was the culprit. The second case deals with a woman who sued a man whom she met on a dating app to recover money for the gifts she had given him.

In the first case, the plaintiff, a mother of four children, has accused her former husband of causing the car she was driving to accidentally enter a pond near their home. The mother claims that she was driving her kids home from school when suddenly the car accelerated and crashed into the water. She says that her ex-husband had previously sabotaged her car, and that this incident was just another attempt to harm her. The defendant, the ex-husband, denies that he had anything to do with the accident. He says that the mother is just trying to get revenge for their failed marriage.

As the trial begins, Judge Judy listens to both parties carefully to understand exactly what happened on the day of the accident. The mother provides evidence that the car had previous mechanical issues that had been caused by her ex-husband. She also presents videos of her kids crying and screaming after the crash, and describes the immense trauma that they faced. The defendant, however, maintains that he had nothing to do with the accident and insists that the mother is lying.

The judge asks both parties questions to determine the truth, and she pointedly asks the defendant why he had previously damaged the car. He denies having done so, but Judge Judy is unconvinced. She ultimately concludes that the mother's case is stronger, and that the defendant has indeed been lying about his involvement. While the defendant will not have to pay the full amount in damages requested, he will have to pay a part of it.

In the second case, the plaintiff claims that she met the defendant on a dating app and they became friends. She says that she spent considerable amounts of money on him, and that he promised to pay her back but never did. She is looking to receive the money she gave as a loan. The defendant states that he did not take any money from the plaintiff and that he was not interested in any sort of romantic relationship.

During the trial, Judge Judy reviews the messages exchanged between the two parties and examines the receipts for the gifts that the plaintiff claims she had given the defendant. The defendant claimed that the plaintiff might have been misinterpreting the transactions, and any money given was part of a gift. However, the judge is not satisfied that the defendant had any intention of offering money back to the plaintiff, based on his behavior. He has immediately blocked her and did not respond to her messages, which the Judge sees as suspicious.

The judge ultimately declares that the plaintiff is entitled to the money back, as there was reasonable expectation for it to be returned. The Judge orders the defendant to repay the amount, which will be a final judgment.

Overall, season 23 episode 182 of Judge Judy provides a dramatic courtroom experience with two intriguing cases that are both resolved through the judge's careful consideration and investigation.
