In the first episode of Jim Henson's The Storyteller, we are introduced to the titular character who sets the stage for the mystical and otherworldly tales to come. The episode, entitled "Hans My Hedghog," follows the story of a man who is half-human, half-hedgehog.
Hans My Hedghog has always been an outcast due to his unconventional appearance and his family's belief that he was cursed. Despite this, he is able to live a happy life thanks to his faithful hedgehog herd and his unique ability to communicate with animals.
As the story progresses, Hans begins to seek a wife who will accept him for who he is. After several failed attempts, he encounters a king who promises his daughter's hand in marriage if Hans can complete a series of difficult tasks.
With the help of his animal friends, Hans is able to complete the tasks and win the princess' heart. However, their blissful marriage is quickly threatened by the king's jealousy and Hans must use his cleverness to outsmart the monarch and save his beloved wife.
Throughout the episode, viewers are transported to a magical world filled with talking animals and fairy tale tropes. The classic themes of acceptance, loyalty, and perseverance are front and center, making "Hans My Hedghog" a delightful and timeless addition to the Jim Henson's The Storyteller series.
