Jam & Jerusalem is a British sitcom that aired from 2006-2009 on BBC America. Created by Jennifer Saunders and written by a team of talented writers, the show stars Sue Johnston, Pauline McLynn, Dawn French, Joanna Lumley, and Jennifer Saunders herself, playing a group of women who live in a rural village in Devon, England.

The show is set in the fictional village of Clatterford St. Mary, where the women of the local guild gather to chat, drink tea, and take part in a range of activities, from amateur dramatics to fundraising for charitable causes. The show follows the lives of these women and their families, as they navigate the ups and downs of life in a close-knit community.

At the center of the show is Sal Vine (Sue Johnston), a recently widowed woman who decides to join the guild in order to fill the void left by her late husband. Sal is a kind, caring woman who is always ready to help her friends and neighbors, but she also has a dry sense of humor that is both witty and endearing.

Another key character is Tip Haddrell (Pauline McLynn), a brash, outspoken woman who is always ready for a fight. Tip is fiercely protective of her daughter, who has Down syndrome, and often clashes with other members of the guild who she feels are not doing enough to support her child.

Dawn French plays Rosie, the local beautician who is always trying to improve her business and keep up with the latest fashion trends. Joanna Lumley plays Delilah Stagg, a glamorous former model who has moved to Clatterford St. Mary to escape the pressures of her former life. Delilah is a bit of a diva, but she quickly finds herself drawn into the close-knit group of women at the guild.

Jennifer Saunders appears in a recurring role as Myrtle, the overbearing mother-in-law of one of the guild members. Myrtle is a larger-than-life character who always has an opinion on everything, and she is not afraid to speak her mind.

One of the strengths of the show is its ability to balance humor with more serious themes. While there are plenty of laugh-out-loud moments, the show also deals with issues such as grief, loss, and disability in a sensitive and compassionate way. The women of the guild may not always see eye-to-eye, but they always support each other when it matters most.

Overall, Jam & Jerusalem is a charming and heartwarming comedy that celebrates the power of friendship and community. With a talented cast and sharp writing, it is a must-watch for anyone looking for a delightful and uplifting series.
