Piggley Winks, a young Irish pig, is excitedly preparing for the annual pie-making contest held in his small farming community. However, when he discovers that he has accidentally used salt instead of sugar in his filling, his confidence is shaken. His two best friends, a duck named Dannan and a cow named Ferny, try to cheer him up by reminding him of his past accomplishments.
As Piggley reflects on his childhood, the audience is transported back in time to when he was a young piglet living on the farm with his parents and siblings. In a flashback, Piggley tells his younger brother that he dreams of winning the pie-making contest someday. His brother responds skeptically, saying that no pig has ever won the contest before.
Undeterred, Piggley begins practicing his pie-making skills with the help of his parents. His first few attempts are disastrous, with burnt crusts and runny fillings. However, he eventually learns from his mistakes and starts to improve. His siblings begin to notice his progress, and one day they suggest that they enter the contest as a team. Piggley is reluctant, but eventually agrees.
On the day of the contest, Piggley and his siblings arrive at the community center with their pies. They are met with scorn and ridicule from the other animals, who believe that pigs are not capable of making good pies. Piggley is crushed, but his siblings encourage him to persevere. Together, they present their pies to the judges.
The judges are impressed with the quality of the pies, but are unable to decide on a winner. They suggest that the contestants try each other's pies and vote on the winner themselves. Piggley is nervous, but when he tastes his siblings' pies he realizes that they are the best he has ever had. He votes for his siblings' pie, and they win the contest.
Back in the present day, Piggley gains confidence from his memories and decides to enter the contest anyway. He does his best with the salty filling, and is surprised to find that the judges actually enjoy the unique flavor. He is declared the winner of the contest, much to the delight of his friends and family.
Pie Filling is a heartwarming episode that emphasizes the importance of perseverance and the power of believing in oneself. The flashback sequences are charming and help to build a deeper understanding of Piggley's character and motivations. The episode is suitable for all ages, and will leave viewers feeling inspired and uplifted.
