Jailbait is a 2011 series that premiered on Crackle Originals. It is a drama/thriller that explores the darker side of teenage life in America. The show follows the lives of two high-school girls who are drawn into a world of drugs, sex, and crime. The first episode sets the tone for the series. We are introduced to 17-year-old Anna Nix (played by Sara Malakul Lane), a troubled teenager who has been in and out of juvenile detention since she was 12 years old. Anna is rebellious, aggressive and doesn't trust anyone. She is placed in a new high school where she quickly makes enemies with a group of popular girls who bully her relentlessly. Anna's only friend is her boyfriend Billy (played by Blake Robbins), who is several years older than her and involved in the local drug scene.
Meanwhile, we are also introduced to Lacey (played by Erin Moriarty), a popular and beautiful 15-year-old who is hiding a dark secret. Lacey is having an affair with her father's best friend, Randy (played by Kevin Gage), who is a drug dealer and all-around bad influence. Lacey is also struggling with her sexuality, and begins to explore her feelings for her best friend, Vanessa (played by Angeline-Rose Troy).
The two storylines eventually converge when Anna and Lacey cross paths at a local nightclub. The girls quickly become friends, and Anna is introduced to Randy and his crew. Anna becomes enamored with Randy's dangerous lifestyle and begins to participate in his drug deals and robberies. Lacey, who is jealous of Anna's relationship with Randy, starts to plot against her.
The rest of the series follows Anna and Lacey as they navigate the treacherous waters of adolescent life. They must deal with abusive boyfriends, drug addiction, and the constant threat of violence. Along the way, they form alliances with other teenagers who are also struggling to survive in this dangerous world.
Jailbait is a gritty and intense drama that deals with taboo subjects such as incest, drug addiction, and sexual violence. The show is not for the faint of heart, and contains many scenes that are difficult to watch. However, it is also a thoughtful and nuanced exploration of the complexities of teenage life. The characters are well-developed and the acting is top-notch, particularly from Sara Malakul Lane, who delivers a tour-de-force performance as Anna.
Overall, Jailbait is a compelling and thought-provoking series that will leave a lasting impression on viewers. It is a stark reminder of the dangers that teenagers face in today's society, and the often tragic consequences of poor choices. Despite its sometimes difficult subject matter, it is a must-watch for anyone who is interested in exploring the darker side of human nature.
