In JAG season 4 episode 12, titled "Dungaree Justice (1)," Lieutenant Colonel Sarah "Mac" MacKenzie finds herself the target of a group of Marines seeking revenge for a previous case she prosecuted. The episode opens with Mac testifying in court against a Marine named Private First Class Ronald Zuger, who is accused of attacking his superior officer. Despite Mac's strong case against him, Zuger is acquitted, much to her frustration.
Later, Mac's colleague and friend, Lieutenant Bud Roberts, Jr., takes her out for a drink to toast her birthday. While at the bar, a group of Marines approaches them and starts making lewd comments towards Mac. When Bud defends her, the Marines start a fight, leaving him injured and Mac shaken.
As the investigation into the assault on Bud begins, Mac starts to notice strange occurrences around her - her car is vandalized, her dog goes missing, and she receives threatening phone calls. It soon becomes clear that the Marines who attacked Bud are seeking revenge against Mac for her role in Zuger's trial.
As the case unfolds, Mac must navigate the complicated loyalty and camaraderie within the Marine Corps while also protecting herself from potential harm. Meanwhile, Commander Harmon Rabb, Jr. and his team work to uncover the identities of the Marines involved in the attack and bring them to justice.
The episode is a thrilling exploration of the honor and values of the military, as well as the challenges and risks that come with serving as a prosecutor in the military justice system. The tension builds throughout the episode as Mac races to protect herself from an increasingly aggressive group of Marines, while Rabb and his team work to uncover the truth and hold those responsible accountable.
"Dungaree Justice (1)" is a standout episode in the series for its focus on Mac, who is one of the show's most beloved characters. It also highlights the complex relationships between military personnel, and the deep loyalty and sense of brotherhood that can sometimes be both a strength and a weakness. As always, JAG delivers a gripping and thought-provoking story with top-notch acting and production values.
