In episode 2 of season 2 of Jade Fever, titled "Out in the Cold," the Jade City miners face a major challenge as they try to get the mining equipment up the long and treacherous road to 2 Mile. The equipment includes a new excavator which is much bigger and heavier than the old one. The road is a steep and winding 20-kilometer stretch which requires them to navigate through thick forests and unpredictable weather, making it one of the riskiest trips the miners have ever attempted.
The miners start off by getting the vehicles ready for the journey. Their first order of business is to reinforce the trailer to ensure that it can hold the weight of the new excavator without collapsing. They also weld a skid onto the bottom of the excavator, which will prevent it from getting stuck on the rough terrain if need be. Once they are satisfied with the equipment, they hit the road, with Steve driving the lead truck, while Josh takes the rear, keeping a lookout for any potential problems.
The journey is anything but smooth sailing. They run into several obstacles along the way, including a narrow section of the road with a steep drop on one side, which requires them to maneuver the excavator around. As they approach 2 Mile, they encounter a hair-raising part of the road known as the "Boulder Garden," where large rocks line the narrow path, making maneuvering the equipment even more difficult. Despite these challenges, the team manages to make it up to 2 Mile safely.
Once they arrive, they set up camp quickly and get to work. Claudia, who has been overseeing the mining operations, takes charge and assigns task to each of the workers. Scrappy is tasked with drilling and blasting while Robin operates the new excavator. Josh and Steve move rocks out of the way, while Claudia checks in on everyone, making sure the operations are running smoothly.
The miners work tirelessly, hoping to uncover some valuable jade. The rough terrain and extreme conditions, however, make the task much harder than they anticipated. Scrappy has a particularly rough time drilling into the rockface, and Robin struggles to operate the new excavator, which is much heavier than what he's used to. Despite the challenges, the miners refuse to give up, working into the night to get the job done.
The next day, they wake up to find that the weather has taken a turn for the worse, as it starts to snow heavily. The miners know they have to work harder than ever to make up for lost time, so they buckle down and focus on the task at hand. They work for hours without any major finds until Scrappy manages to drill into a promising spot that yields some high-quality jade.
With the end of the episode, the miners pack up and leave 2 Mile, pleased with their findings despite the challenges. Overall, episode 2 of season 2 of Jade Fever is a thrilling and suspenseful account of the Jade City miners' attempts to transport their new equipment, set up camp and recover some valuable jade in the process. Fans of the show will love this new chapter, filled with excitement and unpredictability.
