Jack Hanna's Into the Wild is a nature documentary series hosted by Jack Hanna, where he takes us on a journey into the wild to explore the diverse wildlife and landscapes of different parts of the world. In the season 1 premiere episode titled "Lewa: Fast and Deadly", Jack travels to the Lewa Wildlife Conservancy in Kenya to encounter some of the world's most fascinating and dangerous animals.
The episode begins with Jack introducing us to the Lewa Conservancy, which spans over 61,000 acres and is home to over 70 different animal species and over 400 bird species. As Jack sets out in his vehicle, he quickly spots a group of elephants grazing in the distance. He explains how Lewa is doing its best to protect the elephants from poachers who are trying to kill them for their ivory tusks.
Next, Jack heads out to find the fastest and most dangerous animals in Africa, the cheetah and the lion. Jack explains how the cheetah is the fastest land animal on earth, capable of running up to speeds of 70 miles per hour. He sights a group of cheetahs relaxing under the shade of a tree, which gives Jack a chance to get up close and personal with these majestic creatures.
As the episode progresses, Jack goes on to spot some of the big cats of Lewa: the lions. Lewa is home to over 80 lions, and Jack is excited to catch a glimpse of them in the wild. He explains how the lions are the most dangerous animals in Africa, known as the king of the jungle. We see footage of the lions; they are majestic creatures, with powerful voices and a commanding presence.
After spending time with the big cats, Jack heads out to explore some of the unknown species of Lewa. He comes across a group of gazelles, who are feeding on the lush vegetation of the conservancy. Jack explains how the gazelles are prey animals, always on the watch for predators like the cheetah and the lion.
The episode moves on to explore Lewa's conservation efforts, with a visit to a local rhino sanctuary. Jack tells us that rhinos are one of the most endangered species worldwide, and their horns are highly desirable among poachers. Lewa's conservation efforts have managed to protect and increase the population of rhinos in the area.
The episode comes to a close with Jack reflecting on his time at Lewa Wildlife Conservancy. He tells us how he feels privileged to have had the chance to encounter some of the world's most magnificent and deadly animals.
