Iron Chef is a popular cooking competition where renowned chefs from around the world compete against each other to prepare the most exquisite dishes using a secret ingredient revealed to them just moments before the competition begins. In season 7 episode 17, the secret ingredient is spinach.
Iron Chef season 7 episode 17 begins as we see the four Iron Chefs, Masaharu Morimoto, Bobby Flay, Mario Batali, and Cat Cora, getting ready for the competition. The Chairman, Mark Dacascos, announces the secret ingredient as spinach, and the Iron Chefs have exactly 60 minutes to prepare a multi-course meal using it.
The first course is judged by Chef Kevin Brauch, who is joined by two other guest judges. Chef Morimoto starts off strong with a spinach salad topped with a sesame dressing, while Chef Flay serves a spinach and goat cheese tart. Chef Batali presents a spinach and ricotta ravioli dish, and Chef Cora prepares sautéed spinach with garlic and lemon.
The judges award the first point to Chef Batali for his perfectly cooked ravioli, praising its texture and flavor.
Moving onto the second course, the Iron Chefs have to take their spinach dishes up a notch. Chef Morimoto prepares a grilled spinach and shrimp dish, while Chef Flay presents spinach-stuffed quail. Chef Batali prepares a spinach lasagna, and Chef Cora serves a spinach and goat cheese frittata.
The judges are impressed by Chef Flay's creative use of spinach in the quail dish and award him the point.
As the competition intensifies, the Iron Chefs have to come up with even more innovative dishes. Chef Morimoto impresses the judges with his spinach and sesame crusted sea bass, while Chef Flay prepares a juicy spinach and feta-stuffed pork tenderloin. Chef Batali presents an innovative spinach gnocchi dish, while Chef Cora serves up a classic spinach and bacon salad.
The judges award the point to Chef Batali for his unique take on gnocchi, praising his use of spinach and the dish's flavorful sauce.
In the final course, the Iron Chefs have to bring their A-game. Chef Morimoto prepares an indulgent spinach and bacon quiche, while Chef Flay serves spinach-crusted venison. Chef Batali presents spinach and ricotta cannelloni, and Chef Cora finishes strong with her spinach and blue cheese stuffed beef tenderloin.
The judges deliberate and ultimately award the point to Chef Morimoto for his perfectly executed quiche, noting the perfect balance of flavors and textures in the dish.
With 3 out of 4 points, Chef Morimoto emerges as the winner of Iron Chef season 7 episode 17. However, all four Iron Chefs have demonstrated their culinary prowess, creating delicious and innovative dishes using spinach as the secret ingredient.
