Zim is back with more evil plans to conquer Earth. The fifth episode of the first season of Invader Zim introduces us to the Attack of the Saucer Morons / The Wettening. The episode revolves around Zim's attempt to steal water from Earth and take it back to his dry and arid planet, Irk.
The opening scene shows Zim working on a device designed to suck up all the water from Earth's oceans. As soon as he's finished, he launches his plan to invade Earth. Unfortunately for him, things don't go as planned and Zim soon finds himself facing a new trouble -- The Saucer Morons. These are a group of aliens who fly around in a large flying saucer and are on a mission to destroy everything that they encounter.
Zim is not one to give up easily and decides to take on the Saucer Morons. He uses his advanced technology to track their movements and launches an attack on their ship. However, the Morons turn out to be more than he bargained for and quickly put Zim's attack to an end. The Morons then turn their attention to Earth and start destroying everything in their path.
Meanwhile, Dib (Zim's arch-nemesis) is also keeping an eye on Zim's activities. He sees Zim's device sucking up all the water and realizes that Zim is up to something sinister. Dib rushes to warn the authorities about Zim's plan, only to find out that they don't believe him. With no other option, Dib decides to take things into his own hands and battles the Saucer Morons, all while trying to prevent Zim from stealing Earth's water.
The episode takes a dramatic turn when it starts raining heavily all over the city. The rain is so huge and continuous that it causes severe flooding and chaos. This is where the second half of the episode -- 'The Wettening' -- comes into play. Zim is convinced that he's finally succeeded in his plan and celebrates his victory. Dib, on the other hand, is trying to save the city from the flood and still battling the Saucer Morons.
The Wettening is an extremely entertaining episode full of drama, action, and comedy. The animation is top-notch, with brilliantly detailed sequences of destruction, especially the ones involving the Saucer Morons. The voice acting is excellent, with Richard Horvitz (who voices Zim) delivering a stellar performance. The rain animation, in particular, deserves a special mention for its breathtaking detail and realism.
What sets Invader Zim apart from other shows is its unique blend of dark humor and a twisted view of science fiction. The show is aimed primarily at mature viewers who understand the darker elements of humor and enjoy seeing comedy in situations that are meant to be taken seriously.
Overall, the Attack of the Saucer Morons / The Wettening is a highly entertaining episode that showcases the show's potential to the fullest. It establishes the central themes of the show -- the conflict between Zim and Dib, Zim's evil schemes, and the show's unique sense of humor. Fans of the show will surely love this episode, while newcomers will be pleasantly surprised by its combination of comedy, sci-fi, and action.
