Ep 1. Katie

Katie is the focus of the first episode of Intervention season 14. She's a 31-year-old woman who was born and raised in Florida, where she still resides. Katie has battled a drug addiction, specifically to oxycodone and heroin, for the past decade.

Katie's parents, sister, and brother-in-law are all part of the intervention team. They've been concerned about her addiction for years, having witnessed her deteriorating physical and emotional health due to her drug use. Katie's father recalls the first time he realized something was wrong. He found her lying on the couch, unresponsive, and had to call 911. Katie was rushed to the hospital and her parents were told she had overdosed on oxycodone.

Since that time, Katie's addiction has only gotten worse. Her family has tried to get her into rehab several times, but with little success. She's lied to them, stolen from them, and even gone so far as to pawn family heirlooms to get money for drugs. Katie's sister explains that she's not the same person she was before the addiction took hold. She's lost her sense of humor, her kindness, and her joy of life.

The show begins with Katie's family preparing for the intervention. They've hired professional interventionist Ken Seeley to help them. They have letters they've written to Katie, detailing the pain and heartache her addiction has caused them. They hope that by sharing their feelings with her, she'll see the damage she's done and agree to get help.

When Katie arrives, she's suspicious but not surprised. She's aware that her family is concerned about her drug use, but she's convinced that she has it under control. The next portion of the episode follows Katie as she goes through the detox and rehab process. She's emotional, struggling with feelings of guilt and shame due to her addiction. She talks about how the drugs made her feel like she was in a "blanket of happiness," how they helped her escape from her problems.

The rehab facility is tough, and Katie is forced to confront the underlying issues that led to her addiction. She talks about the trauma she's experienced in her life, including the death of her ex-boyfriend, and how she's been using drugs to numb her pain. As she goes through therapy, she begins to understand that she needs to address these issues if she's ever going to be successful in staying sober.
