Ep 6. Dorothy & Ivan

Dorothy & Ivan follows the story of a mother and son struggling with their addictions. Dorothy, 50, is a former interior designer who has been addicted to alcohol and prescription drugs for over a decade. Ivan, her 26-year-old son, started using drugs at the young age of 12 and has been using heroin for the past eight years.

The episode begins with Dorothy being confronted by her younger son, Keith, who has grown tired of her addiction and the way it has affected their family. He urges her to get help, but Dorothy insists that she can handle it on her own. Meanwhile, Ivan's girlfriend, Amanda, discusses her concerns about his drug use and his tendency to disappear for days at a time.

Eventually, the family decides to hold an intervention for both Dorothy and Ivan, with the help of interventionist Jeff VanVonderen. She also begins to confront the trauma of her past, including the death of her son Nick, who died from a drug overdose at the age of 21. Dorothy's journey to sobriety is not easy, but she ultimately emerges stronger and committed to staying clean.

Meanwhile, Ivan's story takes a darker turn. After storming out of the intervention, he disappears for several days and starts using heroin again. His girlfriend and mother become increasingly worried about his safety, and they begin to fear the worst. Eventually, he resurfaces and agrees to go to a detox center, but his addiction proves to be too strong and he leaves before completing the program.

Despite the setbacks in Ivan's journey, the episode ends on a hopeful note. Dorothy successfully completes her treatment and returns home, where she begins to work on rebuilding her relationships with her family. Ivan also returns home and expresses a desire to get clean. While it is clear that there will be obstacles ahead for both of them, viewers are left with a sense of hope that they will be able to overcome their addictions and move forward with their lives.
