Ep 5. The Alternative Truth

Ingobernable season 1 episode 5, titled "The Alternative Truth", follows Emilia Urquiza, the First Lady of Mexico, as she tries to clear her name after false accusations are made against her. The episode begins with Emilia in her bedroom, looking at a newspaper article claiming that she had an affair with her ex-lover, Canek Lagos. Emilia denies the accusations and is determined to find out who leaked the false information to the press.

Meanwhile, President Diego Nava is dealing with the aftermath of a shooting that took place in a rally. The opposition party is blaming the government for the violence, and Diego is struggling to maintain his popularity among the people. He meets with his advisors and orders them to find a way to spin the shooting in his favor.

Emilia decides to confront Canek about the rumors and meets him at a bar. Canek denies any involvement in the leak but tells Emilia that her husband is not as innocent as he appears. He reveals that he saw Diego with a mysterious man who gave him a briefcase full of money. Emilia is shocked by the revelation but tells Canek that she needs proof before she can confront her husband.

Later, Emilia meets with her friend Ana Vargas, a journalist who has been investigating Diego's past. Ana tells Emilia that Diego was involved in a corruption scandal when he was the Secretary of Public Safety. Ana has evidence to prove Diego's involvement but warns Emilia that if she goes public with the information, she will be putting herself in danger.

Emilia takes the risk and decides to hold a press conference to reveal Diego's past. She tells the reporters about the corruption scandal and shows them the evidence. Diego is enraged and confronts Emilia after the conference. He accuses her of betraying him and warns her that she will regret it.

As Emilia leaves the conference hall, she is approached by a man who tells her that he has information about Diego's involvement in the shooting. The man leads Emilia to a hidden room where he shows her a video of Diego meeting with the shooter before the rally. Emilia is shocked and realizes that Diego was involved in the violence.

The episode ends with Emilia realizing that she has put herself in danger by exposing Diego's secrets. She is unsure of who to trust and fears for her safety.
