Host John Walsh, who gained national fame as the host of America’s Most Wanted, uses his skills and experience to help law enforcement agencies and families track down violent criminals on the run.
Season 3 Episode 10, titled “Abuses Of Power,” tackles the issue of law enforcement officials who exert their power in abusive ways. The episode tells the story of two cases where officers of the law are suspected of using their position to commit crimes.
The first case involves a man named Justin Wagers, who was arrested by police in Bradford, Tennessee and taken to the Weakley County Jail. While in custody, Wagers was brutally beaten by a group of correctional officers, who were captured on video carrying out the assault. The officers were fired and arrested in connection with the incident, but their trial ended in a hung jury.
Despite the overwhelming evidence against the officers, none of them were found guilty. Wagers and his family believe that the officers used their connections in the local justice system to escape justice. In this episode, John Walsh speaks to Wagers and his family, as well as investigative journalists who have been following the case.
The second case involves a man named Justin Lammers, who lived in a small town in Missouri. In 2016, Lammers was arrested by police after he made a series of threats against a local movie theater. He was charged with making a terroristic threat and taken into custody.
While in jail, Lammers says he was subjected to a series of abuses by the jail staff, including being beaten, pepper-sprayed, and forced to sleep on the floor without a mattress. Lammers has filed a lawsuit against the jail, but he says that he fears for his safety because the same officers who abused him are still working there.
John Walsh speaks with Lammers, as well as his mother and sister, about the abuses he endured in jail. He also speaks with legal experts about the difficulty of holding law enforcement officers accountable for their actions.
The episode explores the larger issue of police brutality and how it impacts communities across America. John Walsh also discusses the need for better training and oversight of law enforcement officials to prevent abuses of power from occurring in the first place.
“Abuses Of Power” is a thought-provoking and informative episode that is sure to spark conversations about the role of law enforcement in America. John Walsh’s expertise and insight make this a compelling hour of television that is not to be missed.
