In Impractical Jokers season 1 episode 3, titled "Unmotivational Speaker," the four jokers -- Joe, Q, Sal, and Murr -- continue their hidden camera antics, this time taking on the role of motivational speakers.
The episode starts with the guys getting punished for their previous shenanigans. Sal, who lost the most challenges in the first two episodes, has to give a presentation on UFOs to a group of college students. He struggles through the talk, trying to sound credible in front of the skeptical audience.
After the punishment, the jokers get ready for their next challenge. This time, they have to give a motivational talk to a group of aspiring athletes. However, the catch is that they must use an awkward word or phrase throughout their speech. The audience is unaware of the challenge, but the jokers know that they need to keep a straight face while saying things like "flapjacks" and "scooch."
Joe is the first to take the stage, and he uses the word "pickle" in his speech. He manages to get through it without breaking character, but the other jokers can barely contain their laughter behind the scenes.
Next up is Murr, who struggles to incorporate the word "fantastical" into his speech. He stumbles over his words and gets increasingly flustered, but somehow manages to finish the challenge without getting caught.
Q is next, and his word is "cuddle." He takes a different approach and tries to make his speech as inspirational as possible. The crowd seems to respond well, but the jokers can't help but laugh as Q encourages the athletes to "cuddle up to their dreams."
Finally, it's Sal's turn, and his word is "hot-dog." He starts off strong but eventually devolves into an absurd rant about condiments and toppings. The other jokers are in hysterics as Sal goes on and on about how much he loves hot dogs.
In the second challenge of the episode, the jokers have to play a game of "Don't Laugh" with a group of strangers. Each joker takes turns telling jokes or performing skits, and the others have to try and keep a straight face. If anyone laughs, they lose the point.
Joe starts things off with a cheesy pickup line, and Murr follows with an awkward dance routine. Q tries to make the others laugh by performing a dramatic monologue, but the jokers are all too good at keeping a straight face.
Sal is the final contestant, and he tries to make the others laugh by singing a love song to a cardboard cutout of himself. The others are visibly struggling to hold back their laughter, but they manage to hold out until the end of the challenge.
The final challenge of the episode involves posing as employees at a fast food restaurant. However, instead of trying to sell food to customers, the jokers have to try and dissuade them from ordering. They each have a specific character to play, and the goal is to see who can get the least amount of orders in an hour.
Joe plays a germaphobe who sprays sanitizer on anyone who comes near him. Murr is a conspiracy theorist who tells customers that the food is poisoning them. Q tries to upsell orders by suggesting that customers add a hundred extra pickles to their burgers.
Sal's character is the most outlandish of all: a man who is completely obsessed with potatoes. He tries to convince customers to order every potato-based item on the menu, even going so far as to explain the health benefits of eating potatoes.
As the hour wears on, the jokers get increasingly desperate to dissuade customers from ordering. Joe starts spraying sanitizer in customers' faces, Murr starts yelling about the dangers of the food, and Q begins to suggest bizarre combinations of toppings. Sal continues to focus on potatoes, even going so far as to insist that customers try the potato-based desserts.
In the end, the jokers discover that no one is deterred by their antics -- in fact, customers seem to find them hilarious. They end up losing the challenge, but they all agree that it was worth it for the laughs.
Overall, Impractical Jokers season 1 episode 3 is a hilarious installment of the series, featuring some of the jokers' funniest and most outrageous pranks to date. From awkward motivational speeches to potato-obsessed fast food employees, this episode is sure to leave viewers in stitches.
