In iCarly season 1 episode 2, titled "iHate Carly," Carly and her best friend Sam decided to start a webcast in which they showcase their talent and funny skits. Carly's older brother Spencer helps them with their technical needs and produces the show. The first webcast was a huge success and garnered a lot of views.
However, in this episode, Carly experiences a harsh reality when she discovers that not everyone is a fan of her webcast. A new rival webcast, called Nevelocity, emerges, and the host Nevel Papperman is not impressed with Carly's webcast. Nevel is played by Reed Alexander.
Nevel is a 12-year-old boy who runs his webshow from his mother's computer repair shop. He is an aspiring entrepreneur and doesn't take kindly to competition in his market. Nevel is a cunning and manipulative character who begins to use underhanded tactics to sabotage Carly's webcast, including giving her a poor review on his blog and spreading rumors about her.
Carly is devastated when she reads the review and learns that Nevel is spreading false information about her online. Her friends try to convince her to ignore Nevel and focus on making their own webcast better, but Carly is unable to shake off Nevel's comments and finds herself being emotionally affected by them.
Meanwhile, Sam, who is usually tough, begins to feel insecure about her appearance after Nevel insults her on his webcast. She becomes obsessed with looking perfect for the next webcast and begins to act highly vain.
Spencer offers to help Carly get revenge on Nevel by hacking into his website and posting embarrassing pictures of him. Carly initially agrees, but she soon realizes that going down to Nevel's level is not the right thing to do. Instead, she decides to confront Nevel and try to reason with him.
Carly, Sam, and Freddie, a new friend who joins them in making the webcast, go to Nevel's computer repair shop to talk to him. Nevel is unrepentant and refuses to take down his negative review. Carly tells him that she doesn't want to compete with him and that there is enough room for both their webcasts on the internet. She also asks Nevel to tell the truth about her and apologize for his lies.
Nevel, who is impressed by Carly's courage and sincerity, ends up doing the right thing. He takes down the negative review and apologizes to Carly and her friends. The episode ends on a high note with Carly and Sam happy and motivated to continue making their webcast.
