Ep 1. Mary, Brooke, Sharene

Mary, Brooke, and Sharene are three survivors who share their remarkable stories of survival in this episode of I Survived. Each of these women faced harrowing ordeals that tested their courage, strength, and will to live.

Mary's story begins when she was just 8 years old, visiting her grandparents in rural Maine. While exploring the woods, she was suddenly attacked by a massive black bear. Despite being mauled and severely injured, Mary found the strength to crawl back to her grandparents' farmhouse and get help. She endured multiple surgeries and a long recovery, but ultimately survived the encounter with the bear.

Brooke's story takes place in a very different setting: on board a cruise ship in the Caribbean. While enjoying a family vacation, Brooke was thrown from her cabin balcony during a storm and fell into the rough sea below. With no life preserver or floatation device, Brooke managed to stay afloat for hours in the churning water, desperately searching for rescue. Her story is a testament to her remarkable will to survive and her refusal to give up hope.

Sharene's story is no less harrowing, but it takes place on land. One night, while working alone in a convenience store in a dangerous part of town, Sharene was suddenly ambushed and abducted at gunpoint. Her captors took her to a deserted area and subjected her to multiple assaults and horrific abuse. But even in the face of such unspeakable violence, Sharene refused to give up and fought back with all her strength. Eventually, she managed to escape and find help, and her bravery and tenacity saved her life.

Throughout the episode, each woman shares her experiences in vivid detail, describing the terror, pain, and desperation they each faced. But they also speak about the ways in which their survival has changed them, and how they have found inspiration and healing in the aftermath of their trauma.
