In the fourth episode of the first season of "I Shouldn't Be Alive," the audience is taken on a harrowing journey with two best friends as they embark on a river-rafting adventure in Costa Rica.
José and Miguel are excited and ready for a day of adventure as they set off down the Savegre River. They're experienced rafters and have even tackled the rapids of the Grand Canyon together, so they're confident in their skills. However, when they hit a rough patch of rapids, things take a turn for the worse.
As they attempt to navigate the rough waters, a huge swell appears out of nowhere, and before they know it, José and Miguel's raft is flipped and they're both thrown into the raging river. Struggling to keep their heads above water, they cling onto anything they can find, including the overturned raft.
In the chaotic water, José and Miguel quickly realize that they're in serious trouble: their survival skills and experience aren't going to save them this time. The river is dragging them along at an alarming speed, and they're helpless to do anything about it.
As they're swept further downstream, the situation grows more dire by the minute. The two friends are battered by debris, whipped around in whirlpools and rapidly losing strength. But just as they begin to believe that they're doomed, they spot something in the distance: a tall tree, right in the middle of the raging river.
It's their only hope.
Desperate for a lifeline, José and Miguel make their way to the tree, hoping that it will provide them with some shelter from the relentless water. Climbing up through the branches, they find a small area of the tree that's dry and safe from the raging water below.
Despite being battered and bruised, the two friends are overcome with relief and gratitude that they've been able to find some temporary respite. But as the hours and days roll by, they quickly realize that their time on the tree is limited. They have no food, no water and no way of getting help.
As the sun beats down on them and the rain pours, José and Miguel start to suffer from dehydration and hunger. They spend days trying to attract the attention of passing boats and helicopters, but nobody seems to notice them.
With their situation growing more desperate by the minute, the exhausted friends start to feel a sense of hopelessness set in. It's at this point that they realize that if they're going to make it out alive, they're going to have to do something drastic.
As the days turn into weeks, José and Miguel embark on an epic journey to try to save themselves. Battling against the elements, dealing with injuries and illness, they use every ounce of their strength and determination to try to make it back to civilization.
"I Shouldn't Be Alive" Season 1 Episode 4, "Swept Away," is a gripping tale of survival against all odds. It's a story of friendship, courage, and the unbreakable human spirit in the face of adversity.
