Lucy and Ethel were surprised to know that Ricky has been offered a Hollywood movie role that could potentially skyrocket his career. As excited as they were for him, they were also concerned that it would mean leaving their showbiz life in New York behind. When Ricky revealed that the role required him to do a screen test in Hollywood, Lucy hatched a plan to go with him and make her own screen test as well, hoping to secure her own spot in Hollywood and convince Ricky to stay in New York.
Once in Hollywood, Lucy tricked Ricky into taking her along to his screen test by posing as a reporter from a movie magazine. When they arrived at the studio, she managed to sneak herself into the audition room, disguised as a hat-check girl. Ethel also tagged along and disguised herself as a cleaning lady, hoping to get a peek at the stars of Hollywood.
As Ricky began his screen test, Lucy couldn't resist the urge to try out for the part herself, and hilariously interrupted the scene by pretending to faint. The director, initially annoyed, became intrigued by Lucy's comedic talent and offered her a screen test of her own, much to Ricky's chagrin.
Lucy went through a series of bizarre and comical screen tests, including a Western, a musical, and a dramatic romance scene, with Ethel and Ricky watching from the sidelines and cringing at her antics. Meanwhile, Ricky anxiously awaited the results of his own screen test, which he felt went terribly.
In the end, it was revealed that Ricky's fears were unfounded, as he had landed the movie role. Lucy, on the other hand, did not make the cut, but was thrilled to have had the experience. The episode ends with the foursome returning to New York, with Ricky promising to fulfill his commitment to the showbiz life there and Lucy dreaming of her next opportunity to make it big in Hollywood.
