In the season 4 finale of I Love Lucy, titled "In Palm Springs," the Ricardos and the Mertzes head to Palm Springs for a weekend getaway. Lucy is excited to go because she thinks it will be a chance for her to relax and get away from the stress of everyday life. However, her plans are quickly derailed when she learns that Ricky and Fred have signed her up for a golf tournament.
Lucy is not pleased with this news, as she has never played golf before and has no interest in doing so. She tries to get out of it by faking an injury, but Ricky is not fooled and insists that she participate. Determined to prove him wrong, Lucy sets out to learn how to play golf with the help of a book and a set of golf clubs.
Meanwhile, Ethel is excited to spend time at the resort's beauty salon, but her plans are also disrupted when she learns that the salon is closed for renovations. She decides to take matters into her own hands and transforms the hotel room into a makeshift beauty salon, offering her services to the other guests.
As the weekend goes on, Lucy becomes increasingly frustrated with her lack of progress on the golf course and begins to doubt her abilities. However, with a little encouragement from Ethel and some unexpected help from a pro golfer, Lucy manages to pull off a miraculous shot and win the tournament.
The episode ends with the group back at the hotel, enjoying a relaxing evening by the pool. Lucy is happy to have proved Ricky wrong and is looking forward to a peaceful end to their weekend in Palm Springs.
