Lucy and Ethel have big dreams of starting their own business, but they're not exactly sure what that business should be. After bouncing around a few ideas, they settle on a dress shop. However, they quickly learn that starting a business is much harder than they anticipated.
With Ricky and Fred's help, Lucy and Ethel are able to secure a loan to start their business. They set up shop in the apartment building and begin sewing dresses to sell. However, they quickly realize that they don't have enough fabric to make all the dresses they need to sell. They try to buy more, but the store is closed.
Determined to make their business a success, Lucy and Ethel head to the fabric store after hours to get the fabric they need. They sneak in through the window and begin cutting the fabric. However, they soon find out that the store is actually open late that night and they've been caught by the night watchman.
The girls are forced to explain their situation and the watchman agrees to let them buy the fabric they need. However, they don't have the money to pay for it. Instead, they offer the watchman a stake in their business in exchange for the fabric.
With the watchman on board and the dresses finished, Lucy and Ethel host a fashion show to show off their new line. The dresses are a hit and they sell out quickly. However, they soon realize that they don't have enough money to pay back their loan.
Desperate to come up with a solution, the girls decide to hold a special sale. They offer the dresses at a discounted price, but they still don't sell well enough to pay back the loan. Lucy and Ethel are devastated that their business dreams are slipping away.
In the end, Ricky and Fred come to their rescue. They've secretly been promoting the dress shop to their contacts and customers, and they show up to buy dresses in bulk. With their help, Lucy and Ethel are able to pay back their loan and keep their business afloat.
The episode ends with Lucy and Ethel feeling grateful for their husbands' support and determined to make their business a success.
