Lucy starts the episode with a black eye, and she doesn't want to tell anyone how she got it. Ricky, Ethel, and Fred all have their guesses, but Lucy won't reveal the truth.
Meanwhile, Ricky is preparing for a big audition with a famous movie producer, Dore Schary. He wants to impress him so much that he even invites him over for dinner. Lucy doesn't want to ruin the dinner, so she tries to hide her black eye from Schary.
As the night goes on, Lucy can't hide her injury any longer, and everyone wants to know what happened. She finally admits that she got into a fight at a department store with a woman who bought the last pair of shoes she wanted.
Schary is not impressed with Ricky's performance, but he is fascinated by Lucy's story. He offers her a screen test and invites her to come to Hollywood for a meeting with MGM Studios.
Ricky is jealous and doesn't want Lucy to go, but she doesn't want to pass up this opportunity. She convinces him to let her go and promises to be back soon.
Before she leaves, Lucy gets a call from MGM Studios telling her to come immediately. She rushes to the airport but misses her flight. She has to charter a plane to get there and uses all of her and Ricky's savings to pay for it.
When she finally arrives, she discovers that there was a mistake, and MGM didn't want to see her after all. Devastated, she returns home feeling like a failure.
Ricky doesn't blame her and feels guilty for not supporting her more. He decides to make it up to her by throwing her a big Hollywood-themed party. Lucy is thrilled and wears a costume to match.
At the party, Ricky surprises her with news that the famous movie producer, Dore Schary, is coming to see her perform. Lucy is nervous, but she gives the performance of her life.
The episode ends with Schary offering Lucy a contract to star in a major motion picture. Lucy can't believe her luck, and Ricky is proud of her. The two embrace, and the screen fades to black.
