Lucy Ricardo is determined to play cupid for her friend Jerry and her friend from their hometown, Peggy. She arranges for them to meet at a restaurant where they will enjoy dinner and dancing. However, Jerry has no interest in Peggy and is instead interested in Lucy's friend, Betty. Not wanting to disappoint Peggy, Lucy tries to keep Jerry focused on her throughout the evening.
To make matters worse, the restaurant is hosting a dance contest with a cash prize. Lucy and Jerry enter the contest together, but their terrible dancing skills and bickering cause them to lose. In an effort to make up for their loss, Lucy convinces Jerry to take Peggy out to dance and allows Betty to dance with her husband, Ricky.
But things take a turn for the worse when Peggy's boyfriend shows up at the restaurant and catches her dancing with Jerry. In the chaos, Lucy tries to switch partners and ends up dancing with Peggy's boyfriend, who mistakes her for Peggy.
As the night comes to a close, Lucy realizes that her attempts at playing cupid have caused more harm than good. She apologizes to everyone involved and learns to stay out of other people's love lives.
Overall, "Lucy Plays Cupid" is a fun and lighthearted episode with plenty of laughs and hijinks. It showcases Lucy's meddling nature and how her plans can often backfire. The episode also touches on the importance of honesty and communication in relationships.
