Jeannie and Tony's marital life goes through a difficult phase in season 3 episode 22 of I Dream of Jeannie titled "Divorce, Genie Style." The episode opens with Jeannie unhappy with Tony as he is constantly working and does not have time for her. She suggests that they go on a honeymoon, but Tony shoots down the idea as he is too busy with work.
Jeannie's frustration continues to grow, and she decides to consult with her friend, a fellow genie named Fatima. Fatima tells Jeannie that she only needs to use her genie powers to make Tony more attentive to her needs. Jeannie, reluctant at first, ultimately decides to use her powers to make Tony spend more time with her.
However, things quickly spiral out of control as Tony becomes increasingly reliant on Jeannie's powers to make his work easier, leaving him with even less time for her. Eventually, the two of them have a heated argument, and Tony suggests that they divorce.
Jeannie is heartbroken at the thought of losing Tony, and decides to grant his wish for a divorce using her genie powers. However, she soon realizes that this was a mistake, as she too misses Tony and wants to be with him. She decides to use her powers once again, this time to teach Tony a lesson about taking their relationship for granted.
Jeannie's plan involves making Tony believe that he is living in a dream world where everything is perfect but him. In this dream world, Jeannie is married to another man who gives her all the attention she requires, making Tony realize the extent to which he has been neglecting her.
Eventually, Tony wakes up from his dream world, and he and Jeannie reconcile. The episode ends with the two of them heading off on their delayed honeymoon together.
"Divorce, Genie Style" is a classic example of the I Dream of Jeannie formula, where misunderstandings and misuses of Jeannie's powers lead to comic misunderstandings and misadventures. At its core, however, the show is also a romantic comedy that explores the ups and downs of relationships, with Jeannie and Tony's relationship always at the center of the action. With its blend of humor, romance, and fantasy, this episode is a must-watch for fans of the series.
