Hyper Police is a science fiction anime series that aired on TV Tokyo in 1997. The show is based on an eponymous manga by Minoru Tachikawa. Set in a future where humans live alongside humanoid creatures called "demons," the series follows the exploits of a group of police officers who work to maintain order in a world full of the strange and fantastical.

The main character of Hyper Police is Natsuki Sasahara, a young girl who dreams of becoming a bounty hunter. Natsuki lives in a city called "Mambo," which is home to a diverse population of demons and humans. In order to make a living, Natsuki joins the "Hyper Police," a group of law enforcement officers who specialize in capturing rogue demons and enforcing the peace between humans and demons.

As a member of the Hyper Police, Natsuki is joined by a colorful cast of characters, including her partner, the cat-like demon Batanen; her supervisor, the stern and intimidating Sergeant Sakurako; and a trio of bumbling demon criminals known as the "Breathers." Together, they face a variety of challenges, ranging from criminal organizations to supernatural disturbances.

One of the unique aspects of Hyper Police is its world-building. The series goes to great lengths to establish the rules and quirks of its universe, such as the fact that demons must consume certain foods in order to maintain their powers or the fact that certain types of demons are immune to conventional weapons. This attention to detail creates a rich and immersive setting that viewers can easily get lost in.

Another standout feature of Hyper Police is its humor. Despite dealing with serious themes such as discrimination and police corruption, the series often takes a lighthearted approach to its storytelling. This is particularly evident in the antics of the Breathers, who are constantly getting into ridiculous situations and playing off each other's humorous personalities.

The animation and art direction of Hyper Police are also notable. The character designs are distinct and imaginative, with the demons in particular being extremely creative and varied. The series also makes frequent use of vibrant colors and flashy special effects, giving the action scenes a dynamic and energetic feel.

In terms of its voice acting, Hyper Police features a talented cast of veteran actors. Ryuzou Ishino delivers a fine performance as the protagonist, portraying Natsuki as both determined and vulnerable. Chiyako Shibahara is also excellent as Batanen, the show's resident comic relief. Other notable performances include Yuko Miyamura as the sultry demon beauty Sakura, Akio Ohtsuka as the ruthless crime boss Gigelf, and Toshihiko Seki as the mysterious demon hunter Maurice.

Overall, Hyper Police is a fun and engaging series that is sure to delight fans of science fiction and anime. With its unique world-building, colorful characters, and humorous storytelling, it is a standout example of the genre. Whether you're a long-time fan or a newcomer to the world of anime, Hyper Police is definitely worth checking out.
