Hudson & Rex season 1 episode 8, titled "Fast Eddie's," follows detectives Charlie Hudson and Rex, his canine partner, as they investigate a murder at a local sports bar. The victim is the owner, Eddie, who was fatally shot in the kitchen. A group of suspects is quickly established, including Eddie's wife, who had a rocky relationship with him, the bar's head chef, who was recently fired, and the bar's bookkeeper, who was caught stealing money.
As Hudson and Rex investigate the crime scene, Rex's keen sense of smell helps him pick up various scents, including the scent of blood, gunpowder, and alcohol. With his nose leading the way, Rex leads Hudson to a clue that eventually helps them solve the case.
Hudson and Rex soon find themselves questioning all of the suspects, including Eddie's wife, who confesses to having a heated argument with her husband on the night of his murder. She insists that they made up before he was killed and she has no motive to kill him. Hudson and Rex then turn their attention to the bar's head chef, who was fired by Eddie just a week prior. The chef confesses to disliking Eddie but denies any involvement in the murder.
As Hudson and Rex continue to investigate, they uncover a shocking twist in the case: Eddie's bookkeeper had been embezzling large sums of money from the bar, and Eddie had caught her in the act. With her motive exposed, Hudson and Rex confront the bookkeeper, who admits to killing Eddie.
In the end, justice is served, and Hudson and Rex are lauded for their detective work. Hudson and his trusty canine partner prove yet again that their partnership is effective in catching criminals, even when things seem hopeless.
